What you can expect at

The Center for Self

Welcome!

It can be scary to come to therapy for the first time, but I'm glad you're here. We are here to help you work through whatever is bringing you to therapy, and I'm confident that we can make progress together.

According to the American Psychological Association, the best indicator for positive outcomes is the quality and strength of the working relationship between the client and the therapist.

  • Phone Consultation

The free 15 minute phone consultation is to help both you and your therapist know if we are a good fit. Some questions that may be part of the phone consult are:

    What brings you to therapy?

What are your goals and what do you want to work on in therapy?

What would you like to know about me?

    Will you be using insurance?

What times/days work best for you?

  • Where will me meet?

You will either be seen in the office or over telehealth (on your computer or smartphone). Some clients like to be seen in both the office and through telehealth. Wherever you are most comfortable.

  • First Session

Your first session is scheduled for one hour. At the beginning we will discuss confidentiality. We will then discuss your history, what brought you to therapy and what goals you might have.

  • Ongoing Sessions

Therapy sessions are flexibly structured, depending on what you want to work on. Here is an example of what a session might look like.

Sessions are generally 55 minutes long. We will start most sessions checking on current mood any addressing concerns since the previous session. We will identify what you and/or the therapist want to cover in session. We will work through our plan. We will wrap up with things to work on between sessions.

  • How often will we meet

We will collaborate to decide how frequently to schedule sessions. This is based on several factors: severity of symptoms/issues, scheduling, and cost. Generally, sessions start weekly, then every other week, and then monthly.

  • How long will therapy last?

When you feel that all of your goals have been met, you and your therapist can begin to discuss a discharge plan that leaves you with the most possibility for continued success.
